Kali is the name of the traditional martial arts of the Visayas, Mindanao, and Luzon Islands. There is no ranking or belt system. By joining you will improve your strength, skill level, and fighting knowledge. Your acceptance is tested by your humility, two strength tests and a mandatory 6 months probation. Considered among the most complete martial arts systems stemming from the Philippine Islands. Kali is the mother art from these 7000 islands and includes weapons training with the Olisi, Duha Bali (2 sticks), single and double sided knives,Sibat, Spear, and Karambit. Serious practitioners move onto tactical arts involving handguns and carbines. While those truly interested in this native art will be given training in “Kamay/Hilot” otherwise known as the internal healing arts. This is the smallest group class since only the most fit and those needing to learn the ancient ways of weapons will be accepted. Ideal for those in law enforcement, military, or individuals needing combat training.
Held at various locations around Denton, Texas( North Lakes park or South park). Strength, agility, and speed training which combines all the above class routines/ techniques in order to build the physique of a “Combat Fighter”. Considered by many to be the elite of martial arts, this class entails the use of the single stick, duha bali, single blade/double edged weapons, staff, and karambit (a total of 18 weapons). Tactical locks, holds, and chokes are initially introduced before learning more advanced techniques. Strength requirements must be met to maintain training in this system. Select students ONLY. Ages 12 (with interview) will be accepted however, this class is taught at the adult level.
